You totally missed this Harry Potter cameo in the queen’s game
Netflix’s Queen’s Gambit is the most ambitious crossover event in history. As well as showing us what Thomas Brodie-Sangster – the adorable redhead riding on the drums in Love Actually – looks like at 30, she also introduces another child star that you probably haven’t seen since the last time you visited. Dove into a Harry Potter Marathon: Harry Melling, also known as adult Dudley Dursley, who plays the gentle and encouraging Harry Beltik from Gambit.
While Melling has been working steadily since the end of the Harry Potter series, he seems unrecognizable since he was first cast as Dursley in The Philosopher’s Stone almost 20 years ago. Since then, Melling has attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art School of Drama and has programmed over a dozen roles in several movies and TV shows, including His Dark Materials last year. But this year, in particular, is very eventful for Melling. In addition to The Queen’s Gambit, he launched two other Netflix projects: the action film The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron and the psychological thriller The Devil All the Time. Next, the actor trained to play Malcom in a film version of Macbeth with Denzel Washington.
Melling’s physical transformation began long before the Harry Potter series ended. He said hello! Revised in 2017 that in order to avoid being reshaped from his role as Harry’s cousin tyrant, he had to use prosthetics to make him look taller in the final edition.
“I went to drama school at 18 and that’s when the weight changed, not because of a major need on my part, but it’s just something that happened, ”he recently told People. “I think one of the blessings of this type of stage in my life was that it was not recognized. I had this history of being in the [Harry Potter] movies, but I also felt that I had the opportunity to make a new start ”.
Melling, who has appeared on several shows since his stint as Duda, began to lose weight before finishing filming the Harry Potter films.
For the last movie, he even had to wear a big costume. The star told PEOPLE, “I think it was an unconscious thing when this started to happen.
“I went to drama school at 18 and that’s when the weight changed, not because of a major need on my part, but it’s just something that happened.”
“I have done a lot since theater school, I have done a lot of theaters,” he continued. “I think one of the blessings of this kind of phase in my life is that it was not recognized.
“I had this history of being a part of the movies, but I also felt I had the opportunity to spark a fresh start, which I find useful.”
In addition to his work on the Harry Potter films, Melling has also starred in some Netflix series released last year.
